Obamacare – maybe when the Dust Settles…?

Despite over 4 years of personal anti-Obama sentiment, when he was re-elected in 2012, I chose to become essentially reticent in most matters pertaining to him.  I did this because I know that the Scriptures teach that the rise & fall of leaders and governments is under God’s control.  Though we the people may ‘elect’ an official, and cast a lot, the outcome is in God’s hand.  I don’t pretend to understand this.  I just believe it. And because I believe this, it then followed that I had to accept Barack Obama’s re-election as President of this still great country as God’s will.  That doesn’t necessarily mean that Barack Obama is a good man.  It doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s good for this country.  It means that somehow his presidency fits into God’s plan for the Ages.

So I decided not to actively oppose him, either verbally or with the written word.  Going forward, I backed off.  I believe I was led of the Lord to do this.

I was a bit concerned when, not too long ago, I actually caught myself almost liking the President while watching him in a press conference or news briefing.  Way in the back of my mind, a little red flag fluttered.  I thought, be careful, girl!   A moment of apparent genuineness, mixed with humor, isn’t anywhere near enough sufficient cause to discard years of cautious suspicion and instinctive distrust.

“Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts…” (1 Corinthians 4:5)

Well, my wariness has now been vindicated and, for me, ‘the time’ has arrived.

As we all know by now, millions of Obamacare subscribers have had their health insurance policies cancelled.  Policies they were told BY THE PRESIDENT they could keep.  Period.  As we all also know by now, his administration knew this would happen, and they’ve known for some time.

Because in so many instances, I have not been absolutely clear about all kinds of accusations against President Obama, I have tried not to fully ‘go there’, not to cry “Impeach!”, not to actually believe the President is what many say he is.  I am loathe even now to embrace this conclusion.  But barring true witness to the contrary, there is no doubt that we, the people have been lied to by the President and his administration.  I know that deception is certainly not unheard of in the political arena; a person would be foolish to believe unquestionably everything said by a President or politician. But this? To me, this is extremely serious.

In a court of law, both sides are allowed to present and defend their positions.  Along similar lines, in the New Covenant, and perhaps whenever we are willing to allow it, mortality is swallowed up of life.  Opposites collide but may not result in devastation.

It is inexcusable that the American people have been betrayed by false witness.  Some have defended this, saying that those affected by policy cancellations amount  to only about 5% of the total population.  (I’ve heard numbers ranging from 6 – 14 million, so that line of reasoning holds no water, to my way of thinking. That’s a lot of people!) But even  though the numbers were more like 600 – 1,400, that should not vindicate lying to those you are leading.  Details could and should have been better explained.

I’ve read a few specifics on how some people have been affected by the Affordable Care Act policy changes, and they weren’t at all encouraging.  Not at all.

Yet I’m wondering if, despite all the deception and manipulation, ultimately Obamacare might work out? I can’t help but also wonder if objections and resistance and programs fraught with glitches bombarded initial Social Security efforts, or Medicare?  Yet today, many depend on these programs.  A big to-do is being made over the crash of the Healthcare.gov website but, cmon! it’s just getting started!  It may take some time for the bugs to be worked out.

Oh, I’m not happy about Obamacare, not at all.  I think it was conceived hurriedly in secret and rammed down our throats.  And I do not believe it is truly Constitutional.  I no longer have any doubts about the President’s character and substance, either.  But it is possible that this is the only way it could’ve begun to come to pass – a perhaps better, different healthcare arrangement for our country, when all is finally said & done.
